The JW Marriott Sanya Haitang Bay Resort & Spa offers luxurious rooms and suites in a laid back Mediterranean atmosphere in China’s southern tropical paradise.

Location

A quick 40-minute car ride from Sanya’s Phoenix airport, this JW Marriott is one of 14 Bonvoy properties and one of two JW Marriotts in the city of Sanya on Hainan island, a tropical tourist destination in Southern China. It is located in Haitang Bay, one of Sanya’s five major bays, offering 42.8km of white beach and crystal-clear water to explore.

Property

Formerly known as the The Royal Begonia, a Luxury Collection Resort, JW Marriott Sanya Haitang Bay Resort has reopened its doors to guests in late 2019. The property, which is connected to The Sheraton Haitang Bay Resort, is located right on a white, sandy beach. Several larger and smaller pools, spread throughout the vast garden area, tropical plants and palm trees, create the optimum environment for relaxation. Two restaurants and the JW lounge provide a wide variety of food and beverage options throughout the day.

Suite

Prior to our arrival, I was contacted by the hotel, as high occupancy during one of China’s main holiday seasons made it hard to provide an upgrade to a requested room type. A family suite, which had an additional bed in the living room, was offered instead. After I told the hotel, that this bed was not needed, the staff did something I didn’t expect. The living room was “refurnished” just for us and we “found” the bed in the adjacent staircase the next day.

The suite, which has two balconies, is very bright, with white furniture and an overall Mediterranean feel to it. With windows facing to the beautiful garden on one side and balconies facing the ocean, this was my favorite accommodation from the many hotels that I have previously stayed at in Sanya.

Living Room

Entering the suite, a partially transparent partition separates the corridor from the lounge area of the living room, which is very spacious. A dining table in the corner, lounge area in the center and a work desk at the window complete the interior. A guest bathroom in the corridor in between the living and bedroom is also provided as in most suites.

Bedroom

The bedroom, which has its own balcony and windows on two sides, is fitted with a comfortable king size bed in the center, facing the ocean. Additional seating inside and outside on the balcony offer plenty of space to relax.

Bathroom

Walking further inside towards the bathroom, you will find a walk-in closet with make-up mirror. As this was originally a family suite, slippers and bathrobes for both adults and children can be found. On the windows side of the bathroom a free-standing red bathtub invites for a bubble bath in the evening. Children’s tooth brushes and bathroom amenities are provided additionally to the expected Aroma Therapy amenities from JW Marriott.

Member Benefits

Though being a resort and not offering a Club Lounge, we were both offered free breakfast and 1000 bonus points upon arrival. AS I mentioned above, the hotel made everything possible to provide an amazing suite upgrade to us, though occupation rate was high. A VIP manager on the property regularly greeted us and made sure, everything was perfect. Besides some welcome amenities on arrival, we found Hermes bathroom amenities in the evening after a long day on the beach. Member recognition of its finest.

Value

I think the JW Marriott Haitang Bay, usually charging about 200$ per night for a standard room is one of the best choices in Sanya and best money for value for sure. Redeeming it for 35000 points instead, thus valuating the points at just over 5 cents is not recommended.
