Maui’s hotel landscape just added a new chapter with the opening of the Hampton Inn & Suites Maui North Shore in Kahului. As of May 1, this 136-key, Hilton-branded property is officially welcoming guests. Located at 130 W. Kaʻahumanu Avenue, just minutes from the airport, it’s geared toward convenience—but its presence raises some interesting questions.
I’ve lived in both Waiehu and Kahului and spent plenty of time zigzagging around Maui, so I know this area well. Honestly, I’m not entirely sure Kahului needed another hotel. It’s not exactly the first place visitors think of when dreaming about a Maui vacation. But with that said, this isn’t just another airport motel. It’s a noticeable upgrade, and for travelers seeking a practical, well-located base with Hilton perks, it’ll likely be well received.
Blending Comfort with Culture
What sets this property apart is how it embraces Maui’s culture. Built on the site of the old Maui Palms Hotel, the new Hampton Inn includes thoughtful touches like an Oshibori welcome towel, daily lei-making classes, and a conch shell pū ceremony to close the day. Inside, local artist Alexandra Underwood’s mural celebrates the natural beauty of Wailuku and its native flora.
Rooms and Amenities
Each guest room comes with views of either Haleakalā or Kahului Bay. You’ll find the usual comforts—mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, in-room safe, and more. The hotel includes a pool facing the bay, a well-equipped fitness center, and a shuttle to and from the airport. They’ve also included beach-friendly gear like chairs, towels, and umbrellas, which is a nice touch for those venturing out to Maui’s more traditional beach zones.
