The Hyatt Regency Cartagena offers sophistication from a high-rise hotel on Colombia’s Caribbean coast.

In the city of Cartagena, the Hyatt Regency rises more than 20 stories above the Caribbean sea. The oceanfront property is just a couple of miles away from the original walled city, close to shopping and restaurants and no more than 20 minutes from the airport in moderate traffic.

Property
The hotel stands tall in a glass-front building. The building is new (as opposed to a conversion or refit), connected to a shopping mall and parking garage and is just across the street from the beach.
The multi-level pool deck features cabanas, several bars, a zero-entry pool, and a quieter adults-only pool on its own deck. Service is available around the area and in the cabanas available by reservation in advance.
The property offers full spa services to guests in a relaxing environment.
Suite
Due to my World of Hyatt Globalist status, my family was upgraded to a suite. Upon entering the suite, a guest bathroom is available to the right. To the left is a mini-fridge where the staff had a welcome amenity waiting for me before opening up to the living room.
Living Room
Floor-to-ceiling windows lit the room, sunlight glinting off the water. A desk, a dining room table, two chairs, a couch, and tv made us feel at home. Style touches around the room gave the hotel a premium feel.
Bedroom
Through a doorway from the living room, the bedroom continued many of the style benefits of the rest of the room. The same expansive windows fill the bedroom with light as well. A small seating area is available near the window.
Bathroom
Guests are spoiled with a large walk-in closet and modern, massive bathroom. In the spirit of other higher-end properties, the bathroom features a closed-door water closet, a large shower, dual vanity, and a stand-alone soaking tub.
World of Hyatt Service and Benefits
As a World of Hyatt Globalist, I enjoyed complimentary breakfast, afternoon canapes, lounge access, late checkout, bonus points, and an upgrade to a suite.
The Hyatt Regency line is traditionally a business hotel and its Cartagena location has some of those elements with the added benefit of being oceanfront. As such, the hotel has an executive lounge where elite World of Hyatt members check in for their stay (as opposed to at reception on the second floor.)
Breakfast is offered in the lounge as well as afternoon drinks and snacks. Where the lounge succeeds in offering a robust afternoon selection, it lags some at breakfast. It’s a serviceable breakfast but nothing exemplary. For those interested in a more local touch, try the many restaurants outside the property in the morning.

Value
The Hyatt Regency Cartagena is affordable and delivers one of the newest products in Cartagena. Average costs range between $110-130/nt. Compared to other hotels from major chains in the area, the Hyatt is around the same price but the property is far newer.
For World of Hyatt members, the property is a Category 4 (which makes it eligible for World of Hyatt credit card certificates.) Award nights cost 12,000/nt for a standard room. This provides a value of 0.9¢ to 1.1¢/point, well below Suites and Lobbies valuation of 2¢/point. World of Hyatt members should spend cash for their stay. Globalists find even more value with added perks like breakfast.
